Bad First Half Leads to Loss at Bethany
MANKATO, Minn. - The men's basketball team was unable to stop Bethany on the offensive end in the first half, leading to an 83-68 loss Saturday night.
The Vikings came out firing from distance, hitting 9 of the 15 attempts from beyond the three-point line in the first half on their way to a 55-34 lead. Bethany shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the first half, while the Knights shot 39.4 percent. Tommy Saffert finished the first half with 20 points and six three-pointers for Bethany.
MLC tried to fight back in the second half, and outscored the Vikings in the second stanza 34-28, but were never able to cut the Bethany lead under 15 points.
Greg Holzhueter (Mankato, Minn./MVL) led the Knights with 13 points and added six rebounds, while Justin Danell (New Ulm, Minn./MVL) added 11 points. Nathan Bauer (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside) finished with a team-high five assists and three steals.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in the UMAC, while Bethany improved to 5-13 on the year and 5-3 in conference play.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, February 2, when they host North Central for a 7:30 p.m. game.[BOX SCORE]
