Saints Top Knights to Close Weekend Series
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team closed its weekend series against St. Scholastica with a 10-0 loss in seven innings Saturday at Mueller Park.
The Knights were held to one hit in the game, a Jake Ziel single in the fourth inning, while the Saints finished with 13 hits against MLC pitchers.
CSS took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, taking advantage of a pair of walks by MLC starter Jonathan Kock and some defensive miscues behind him. The Saints then put the game away in the fourth inning with four more runs, building a 9-0 lead that hold until they scored the tenth run in the seventh inning to enforce he ten-run rule and end the game.
Kock took the loss for the Knights, going 3.1 innings and allowing eight runs (six earned). Wyatt Weimer and James Hemmelman pitched the final 3.0 innings of relief for MLC.
MLC dropped to 4-7 on the season and 1-2 in the UMAC in defeat, while CSS improved to 12-10 overall and 4-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 15, when they travel to Cologne, Minn., to take on Crown College for a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
