Knights Unable to Hold Down Susquehanna
FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The MLC baseball team took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning, but was unable to hold in a 12-5 loss to Susquehanna on March 9.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, MLC put four runs on the board in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Tyler Morgan (New Ulm, Minn./MVL) scored Greg Holzhueter (Mankato, Minn./MVL) and Stephen Gurgel (Mequon, Wis./KMLHS) with a double to start the scoring, and Tyler Briney (Stevensville, Mich./MLHS) pushed the other two runs in with a two-out single to give the Knights the lead after the top of the second.
Susquehanna responded with three in the bottom of the third to take a 5-4 lead, but MLC tied the score at 5-5 in the fourth with another RBI from Morgan, scoring Holzhueter from second on a single.
That would be the end of the scoring for the Knights, however, as Susquehanna scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and then four times in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Bryan Scriver (Menomonie, Wis./SCLHS) got start and the loss for the Knights, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 4.1 innings as he dropped to 0-2 on the season. Joseph Blum (Bonduel, Wis./FVL) pitched 3.2 innings in relief and allowed six runs on ten hits.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-5 on the season.
