Florida Trip Ends with Loss to LaRoche

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The baseball team clawed back from an early deficit, but allowed seven late runs as it finished its Florida trip with a 16-5 loss to LaRoche.

Stephen Gurgel had an RBI and scored one run in MLC's loss to LaRoche

MLC starter Joe Janke (Big Bend, Wis./LPS) allowed six runs in the first two innings before Hikaru Tomizawa (Saitama, Japan/LPS) and Nate Brenner (Mequon, Wis./LPS) finished the game from the bullpen. Janke dropped to 0-1 on the season with the loss.

MLC took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tyler Morgan (New Ulm, Minn./MVL) singled home Greg Holzhueter (Mankato, Minn./MVL). The Knights also scratched across a run in the third on a Morgan single that scored Stephen Gurgel (Mequon, Wis./KMLHS) to make the score 6-2.

After LaRoche scored one run in the bottom of the third, the Knights cut the deficit to two at 7-5 with two runs in the fourth with RBI from Holzhueter and Gurgel after the Knights loaded the bases with three walks to start the inning, and one run in the fifth when Sam Korth (Bay City, Mich./MLS) scored on a wild pitch.

LaRoche would push back with one in the fifth, and then put the game out of reach with seven runs in the eighth inning.

With the loss, MLC dropped to 0-6 on the season.
