Big Third Inning Pushes Saints Past Knights
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC baseball team lost its first game of a weekend set against St. Scholastica by the score of 19-1 Friday afternoon at Mueller Park.
The Knights trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the third inning, but an 11-run inning by the Saints in the third put the game out of reach in the early going.
Joseph Blum (Bonduel, Wis./FVL) got the start and dropped to 0-4 on the season with the loss. He 2.2 innings and allowed 12 runs (seven earned) on nine hits while striking out two.
The Saints outhit the Knights 19-7 for the game, and also turned in a solid defensive effort that included three double plays.
MLC scored its lone run in the seventh inning when Nate Brenner (Mequon, Wis./LPS) singled home Lucas Fricke (Mauston, Wis./LPS), who had doubled earlier in the inning.
The Knights dropped to 0-17 overall and 0-5 in UMAC play with the loss, while the Saints improved to 17-3 on the season and 5-0 in league action with the win.
The two teams will play a double header tomorrow (Saturday) at Mueller Park, with game one scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
