Baseball Splits Final Double Header on Florida Trip

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team finished its annual Florida trip with a double header split against Westminster College (Pa.), winning game one 5-2 and losing game two 4-3.

Jake Ziel picked up his first win of the season in game one against Westminster

MLC 5, Westminster 2

Jake Ziel continued the run of strong pitching performances on the trip as he helped the Knights to a 5-2 game one win.

Ziel went the distance on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out six without walking a batter as he improved to 1-1 on the season.

At the plate, the Knights finished with nine hits as a team. Galen Holzhueter finished with two hits and three stolen bases, while Ben Edmundson had a big two-run triple in the win.

Westminster 4, MLC 3

MLC was unable to finish off the sweep as Westminster held on for a 4-3 win in the second game of the double header.

Wyatt Weimer gave the Knighs a lift on the mound, throwing a complete game and allowing only two earned runs and not walking a batter in the game. He finished with two strikeouts.

Tom Welch and Andrew Nemmers each had two hits for MLC.

The Knights finished their Florida trip 3-5 following the split, while Westminster improved its record to 3-3 this season.

MLC will return to action on Friday, March 28, when it hosts North Central in the UMAC Opener at Mueller Park.
