Baseball Drop Two at Gustavus
ST. PETER, Minn. - The MLC baseball team lost both games of a double header at Gustavus Monday afternoon, dropping game one 10-6, and game two 20-3.
Gustavus scored at least one run in each of the first four innings on the way to beating the Knights 10-6 in game one.
The Knights found themselves trailing from the beginning, as Gustavus scored one in the first, two in the second and third innings, and five in the fourth to take a 10-1 lead.
Hikaru Tomizawa (Saitama, Japan/LPS) allowed six runs (all earned) on seven hits in three innings, dropping to 0-5 on the season.
MLC made things interesting with a five-run fifth inning, but it wasn't able to get any closer.
Greg Holzhueter (Mankato, Minn./MVL) and Mike Haugly (Malone, Wis./WLA) each had two hits for MLC, with Holzhueter also leading the team with two RBI.
Gustavus once again used early offense to put the Knights in a hole they weren't able to get out of in a 20-3 win over MLC.
MLC answered a five-run Gustavus first inning with three runs in the top of the second, but Gustavus scored one in the second, eight in the third, and three in the fourth and fifth innings to build up the big final margin.
The Knights sent four different pitchers to the mound in the game, with starter Stephen Gurgel (Mequon, Wis./KMLHS) getting the loss after lasting one-third of an inning and allowing five runs to start the game.
MLC scored its three runs in the second inning on a two-run single by Lucas Fricke (Mauston, Wis./LPS), and an RBI single by Nate Brenner (Mequon, Wis./LPS).
With the two losses, the Knights dropped to 7-31 on the season. They will return to the field on Friday, May 7, when they travel to UM-Morris for a 3 p.m. game.
