Why don't I
see my course when I log into Moodle? Two things have to occur before students can see a particular course in Moodle: 1) Students need to be enrolled into the course, which is handled by MLC Network Services, usually sometime during the week prior to the start of the course. 2) The course instructor must make the course "available" to the students. |

7.
Why do I still see an old course in Moodle from a previous semester? Courses remain visible in Moodle until the course instructor turns off student availability. If seeing the old course bothers you, you may contact the course instructor and request that the course be made unavailable or that your name be removed from the course. |

When I copy and
paste text into a discussion board in Moodle, strange symbols appear
where I had used apostrophes and quotes. Why does this happen? Currently many course management systems (CMS), such as Moodle, don't support "curly" quotes, apostrophes, semicolons, etc. This is not something that MLC can do anything about, but the inconvenience might be changed in a future release of Moodle. The best advice is to set your word processing program to type "straight" quotes, apostrophes, semicolons, etc. Another solution is to view your work in "Web Layout" view in Word prior to copying and pasting text from Word into Moodle. Also, once you have pasted work from Word into Moodle, it is wise to click on the "Clean Word HTML" icon on the WYSIWIG toolbar in Moodle prior to posting your work. Another option is to retyped these particular characters once they have been pasted into a Moodle textbox. |

Why? It is likely that you are using a PC and a particular security setting in Internet Explorer is set. Please see the "Using Word in Moodle" document available on the Moodle Tips page at http://www.mlc-wels.edu/home/administration/offices/netserv/moodletips/ for additional information on how to access the document. |

How can I reduce the amount of scrolling needed to get to later
lessons in a course in Moodle? To the right of each numbered topical area in a course, you should see a rectangle. Click once on the rectangle of the desired topic to hide all other numbered topical areas, leaving the unnumbered top topical area and the single selected topical area visible. There will now be a double rectangle to the far right of the remaining numbered topical area. Clicking on the double rectangle will return you to the previous display of seeing all topical areas. |
