Apply for Financial Aid
REMEMBER: To be considered for MLC Grants, the deadline to file the 2013-14 FAFSA and to submit the MLC Financial Aid Application is April 15, 2013, and November 1, 2013, for Semester II enrollees.
SALEM GRANT APPLICATIONS will be mailed to pastoral studies students in the spring.
In order to apply for financial aid, please follow the steps as outlined here:
- Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on their website.
- Fill out and submit the Martin Luther College Financial Aid Application.
We also have some tips on filling out your FAFSA and other aid applications.
The Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) is available to FAFSA filers. You will be presented with the option to use this tool to import data from your 2012 tax return into your FAFSA.
The DRT can be used two to three weeks after filing an electronic tax return. Tax returns submitted by mail aren't available for using the DRT for up to eight weeks.
Use of the DRT makes it less likely that your FAFSA is chosen for verification, and if it is chosen, the verification process is much simpler.
If your FAFSA is chosen for verification and the DRT was not used, you will need to request a tax return transcript from the IRS and submit it to the Financial Aid Office.
File your taxes as early as possible. If taxes cannot be filed by April 15, estimate the tax information and update the information when taxes are completed.
For students whose parents are ministers of the gospel, the DRT tool does not import all of the needed information to determine the correct financial aid. We may request a signed copy of the tax return, W-2 forms, and a copy of Schedule SE to provide for the proper protection allowance for self-employment taxes.
Net Partner puts you in charge of your information
By going to MLC’s portal and the secure Net Partner site, you will be able to access your financial aid from anywhere in the world using only an internet browser. No longer will you need to remember to take home, or to whichever part of the world you are going during summer vacation, the award letter and important information that were included. Here are some of the things you can do:
- Learn of required documents needed to verify your FAFSA. When documents needed are determined, we send an email advising you to log in to Net Partner.
- Print forms that need to be completed so you can return them as an attachment by email, fax, or via the postal service.
- View the financial aid you are awarded. Again, we notify you by email that your aid is processed.
- Accept loans by printing the Loan Request Form and completing the process outlined on the form.
Only students who have submitted a FAFSA can have an electronic account. Net Partner will be available about March 1. Net Partner does not include your Student Billing Account information.
